Plane crashes at Reno National Championship Air Races, Pilot killed


In a tragic accident on Sunday, a pilot got killed in a plane crash during Reno National Championship Air Races.

As per the information given by Reno Air Racing Association, Jet Gold Race was going on in Nevada, and suddenly a plane crashed and the pilot got killed. The plane was completing the third lap and was on the outer pylon that was used to mark the track of the flight. There was a total of six laps in the race.

The video footage of the accident is also available. It shows that the plane crashed at 3:45 p.m. and got engulfed in fire flames. The plane involved in the accident was Aero L-29 Delfín. It got crashed nearby a residential area of Reno. The area is approximately 2 miles away from the race venue.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a tweet that it was sending teams to the crash site, 13945 Red Rock Road.

The live telecast of the race was being done on the YouTube channel of the racing association. But after the accident, all the races were stopped, and the streaming was as well.

When the crash happened, there was only one pilot on the plane. The identity of the pilot is yet to be established.

All other pilots, who were taking part in the race, were safe.

This is not the first time that such an accident has happened during the races. The Reno National Championship Air Races have a history of accidents and crashes. In 2011 and in 2014, such crashes happened.

Reno National Championship Air Races are a favorite among the people. The races have been held every year for the last 50 years. Thousands of people go to watch these races. The competing pilots fly High-performance and experimental planes during the races. The competition is quite dangerous as the pilots fly closer to the ground.

The accident is being investigated by the teams of The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
