Japan Sakurajima Volcano Eruption: Sakurajima is among the most active volcanos in Japan. It is situated on Kyushu island. There have been eruptions from the volcano for the last three days. Fortunately, no injuries and casualities have been reported so far. The Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued Highest Alert, alert 5, in this regard. The residents are left in fear.

In 1914, Japan’s Sakurajima volcano had a dangerous eruption that resulted in numerous deaths. But according to JMA, this time, the chances of that kind of eruption do not seem obvious.

When the volcano erupted, a huge rock from a crater flew for 2.5 kilometers. After that, the JMA warned the nearby residents that within 2 kilometers radius of two craters, pyroclastic flows could occur.

Minamidake and Showa are the two craters, and within 3 kilometers radius of these craters, there are 33 houses with 51 residents in them. Authorities asked all of them to evacuate their homes. Till now, 30 residents have evacuated and have taken shelter elsewhere.

From the Minamidake crater at the Sakurajima volcano, four eruptions have been noticed between Saturday and Sunday. On Monday morning, a small eruption occurred.

Currently, vacations are going on in the schools in Japan. The authorities have canceled the activities at the elementary schools, junior high schools, daycare centers, kindergartens, and after-school clubs meant for children. The teachers have also been prohibited from going to work.

The authorities are keeping a look at the ground situation using helicopters. There is a nuclear power plant in Sendai, which is 50 km away from the volcano. Till now, the plant is safe.
