The annual contest allows students across the US to submit Google Doodle artwork to suit their theme. This year, the theme was “I care for myself by….”
The theme was aimed to reflect on positive ways for students to renew their mental and physical health.
Here’s everything we know about the winner of Doodle for Google 2022, Sophie Araque-Liu.
WHO IS SOPHIE ARAQUE-LIU?
Based in Florida, Sophie is a junior at Martin County High School.
Her artwork was selected from Florida among thousands of entries, and following her nomination, she told TC Palm: “I’m not used to all the attention. But I’m so happy and so excited.”
She was nominated for the first time after submitting her artwork for three years.
Her final art that bagged the award represented the theme “I care for myself” using an image of her hugging her mother.
WHAT’S THE PRIZE MONEY FOR DOODLE FOR GOOGLE 2022?
Sophie has received a $30,000 college scholarship. Meanwhile, her school will receive a $50,000 technology package, which is meant to be used to improve the laboratory facilities.
In addition to this, her artwork will be displayed on the Google homepage as well as the New Tab Page in Chrome throughout August.
Her artwork, titled “Not Alone,” is believed to encourage viewers to seek help in difficulties and to remind them that they are always surrounded by their loved ones.
WHO WERE THE JUDGES?
The judges for Doodle for Google in 2022 included Selena Gomez and 2021’s Teacher of the Year, Juliana Urtubey.
This was followed by five rounds of public voting to select the best artwork from five different age groups.
The panel of judges further narrowed the finalists to one winner and Sophie took home the coveted prize.
