Accidentally Paid 300 Times His Salary: What will you do if you accidentally receive a salary 300 times more than what you normally get? Seems unexpected, right? But this has happened with an employee in Chile. The worker was employed at cold meats manufacturer Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos, located in Santiago.
The Chilean employee was at the post of dispatch assistant with a monthly salary of $545, i.e., 508256 Chilean Pesos. But in the month of May, he received 165,398,851 Chilean pesos, which is equivalent to $177356 today reports Diario Financiero, a Santiago-based newspaper.
This huge amount of salary was credited into his account by mistake. And after seeing this in his account, the employee reported the matter to the deputy manager of his center. The manager further took notice of the HR. And HR told him that it was a payroll error and asked the worker to return the extra money credited.
The employee promised to do so by the next day. But he never showed up again. The company authorities tried to contact him on Whatsapp and on the phone over the next few days but failed to do so.
He agreed to go to the bank the next day, but kept the money and ignored communications from his employer over the next few days.
The employee withdrew all the money from his account and ran away. The employee’s attorney contacted the company authorities and told them that the worker had already resigned from his job. The attorney handed over the resignation letter to the company.
The company has charged the employee with criminal charges of misappropriation of funds. Till now, Chilean police have not been able to arrest anyone in the case.
